New e-Government report published

Friday, September 23, 2005

Continuing my long-term relationship with leading Irish web consultants iQ Content, I’ve contributed to their new report, Benchmarking eGovernment Websites in the U.K. and Ireland: Who’s getting it right (and why)?

This report provides the first definitive user experience league table benchmarking Irish and UK eGovernment websites, and provides best practice examples and concrete recommendations for enhancing eGovernment performance.

Although the websites we focus on are 42 UK and Irish sites, the review of the current e-gov landscape, the recommendations and best-practice examples have a much wider application.

I helped review sites, compile the research and carry out some of the analysis. It’s been an instructive exercise, and re-inforces the need to place most emphasis on the users - what they’re looking for, how things would work best for them . . . It sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many of the sites we reviewed (and many others) have an entirely internal focus.

I’d heartily recommend the report, especially for people responsible for public sector sites.
